Nico Migdal is a multimedia artist from Berkeley, CA working with dance, ceramics, textile and projection. Migdal investigates the ways in which intimacy is made public and how the audience can be both the voyeur and the subject of attention.
Drawing from experiences of intimacy, fluctuating gender, sex, joy, and darkness, Migdal aims to create tactile interactive pieces that make the viewer feel at home and welcomed, yet reflect the dark uncomfortability that we must wade through to reach joy and freedom in ourselves and in our relationships. They are guided by questions such as: How do individual experiences, self-image, identity, and growth build our internal landscapes? How can comforting and soft materials such as textiles and bodies interact with harsh and hard materials, like ceramic? What does it mean for the body to become a material?
Migdal is constantly investigating the embodiment of sexuality and empowerment through objects and movement, and how this can be communicated through choreographed bodies in space, as well as constructed ceramic, textile, and digital pieces.
